Rated Match Policy

On 15th March 2017, the UKBGF adopted its official results policy PDF, which is designed to establish a standard for the quality of results posted to this site.

The UKBGF policy is supplemented by local policies, which give club managers the freedom to define local rules that work for the way their events are run.

The manager for Loughborough data on this site is Joe White.

The local policy for Loughborough is as follows:

Loughborough Backgammon Club Policy

Creation and purpose

The Loughborough Backgammon Club (LBGC) was created to allow people from the local community to enjoy the great game of backgammon with others. The club is open to all people and all levels of competence.

Rules of play

All matches are played according to UKBGF rules which will always include the Crawford rule. The use of clocks may be used if agreed to by mutual consent. Baffle boxes may be used by either player if they so desire. Clocks and/or baffle boxes may at times be required for certain events where it is decided in advance that all matches will use them. Clock time and delay may also be changed by mutual consent.

Casual games and matches are encouraged where everyone can discuss strategy over the board and sharpen their skills. It also allows stronger players to share insight with newer players. At times, however, matches may be entered into the UKBGF database for rating purposes.

For rated matches the following rules apply:

  • It must be decided before the first roll of the dice whether the game will be rated or not as well as whether the clock will be used. If the clock is used and a person runs out of time then they lose the match.
  • Opponents should be assigned in a random fashion such as a drawing or “round robin” so players can play a variety of opponents and all members have the chance to play everyone at some point.
  • Matches must be played at a club event or meeting and across a live board; online games are excluded.
  • Those not playing may not give advice to players during the match and no artificial aids such as calculators may be used by players, except score keeping aids.
  • The scores will be entered online by the club manager.
  • Disputes about matches may be brought up to the club manager and if not resolved to all parties’ satisfaction appealed to the UKBGF.

Conduct

It is hoped that club play is fun and enjoyable and fit for families. For this reason insulting or incendiary language, profanity or threats are not permitted and everyone should be treated with respect. This applies to the staff and other customers of the venue as well. Players must buy all of their food and drink at the venue and pay all bills.

Fees

Currently there is no fee for this club.
